HNMA Adopted as a Groundwork USA Trust
KANSAS CITY, Kansas – The Historic Northeast-Midtown Association (HNMA) will be celebrating its rebranding and launch of Groundwork NRG (Northeast Revitalization Group)
The celebration will occur on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the Beatrice L. Lee Community Center (1310 N. 10th ST) from 5:30pm – 7:00pm.
Groundwork USA is a national network of grassroots organizations working to revitalize communities with a history of disinvestment and neglect.
Background:
Over the last 24 months, HNMA has applied to become a trust in the Groundwork USA network and conducted a four-month feasibility study—an in-depth process that outlined what a change from HNMA to a trust of the Groundwork USA national network might look like and how going forward, this change could impact the organization’s work focusing on equity and inclusion, healthy communities, transforming brownfields, urban waters and youth development.
This study was done with help from Groundwork USA, the National Parks Service, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
As a member of the Groundwork USA network, HNMA would:
Receive almost $200,000 in transition funding from the National Parks Service
Expand and develop our work in Northeast KCK, focusing on the Northeast Grocers Co-op and development of a Green Team (local youth trained and employed in environmental stewardship)
Gain access to help from the 19 other Groundwork trusts across the nation
Change our name and logo to Groundwork Northeast Revitalization Group (Groundwork NRG)
HNMA offers services and programs to improve the quality of life of the residents in its’ service area. As the Neighborhood Business Revitalization Group for the area, HNMA also serves as a technical and informational resource to the neighborhood associations in the northeast and midtown areas. The HNMA is focused on empowering individuals to create measurable improvements in their lives.
