Green Infrastructure Install at 710 Oakland

If you've been following Groundwork NRG, you may have already heard about our Green Team. Green Team is all about giving high school and college-aged young people the skills and tools they need to create environmental improvements in their own backyard.

One of the most exciting Green Team projects is the new green infrastructure installation that we're building on a parcel at 710 Oakland Ave. The parcel is vacant and slopes at an angle that creates significant stormwater run-off.

On May 1st from 9am-5pm, we'll be planting native flowers, shrubs, and grasses on 710 Oakland as part of a strategy to improve the parcel. This will be the first of three installs along the future path of the NE KCK Heritage Trail, which will create a continuous, self-guided heritage trail from Kaw Point to the Quindaro Townsite.

Also, if you live in the Douglass-Sumner Neighborhood—where the installation will be taking place—you can join the Green Team Tool-Kit Workshop on 4/29 to learn about future opportunities for green infrastructure in Douglass-Sumner.

The installation is being conducted in partnership with the Douglass-Sumner Neighborhood Group and Community Housing of Wyandotte County.
