We're happy to announce the return of our food drives! In these uncertain times, food security is more important than ever. With our April Food Drive, we'll be distributing fresh food obtained through the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program. Anyone who is in need of fresh dairy and produce can drive through and receive their food box. The drive will be taking place at 1726 Quindaro, the site of the up-and-coming Northeast Grocers, and is tentatively planned for April 24th at 10am.
The NE Grocers will be a community-run co-op and, once it opens, the only grocery store in Northeast KCK—which is currently a food desert. Crucially, the NE Grocers needs support from the Unified Government in order to make the community vision of a northeast grocery store a reality. The road ahead is long, and will require sustained community engagement and participation.
If you'd like to volunteer at the April Food Drive, or if you'd like to get plugged in to help with the NE Grocers project, please reach out to Alyssa Moncure, Groundwork's new NE Grocers Coordinator here.
